SS02 - FORMS OF PLAY
Photography by Evin Holley
Created Winter of 26
The second chapter of GirLand, Forms of Play, explores transformation through material experimentation and sculptural construction. Centered on an all-white palette, the collection explores the relationship between softness and structure, fragility and restraint, asking the audience to look inwards.
When does plat become childish? At what
Plaster, resin, wool, wire, and feathers are manipulated into exaggerated forms that challenge traditional ideas of footwear and wearability. While sculptural in appearance, each piece remains grounded in the language of shoemaking and physical construction.
The collection examines the act of making as a form of play, in which materials are stretched beyond their expected purpose and footwear becomes both an artifact and a performance. Through monochromatic surfaces and layered textures, Forms of Play reflects on transformation, tension, and the beauty found within experimentation.
01 BAREFOOTED
Explores innocence and discomfort through distorted barefoot forms inspired by childhood movement and bodily memory. Sculpted toes and plaster surfaces blur the line between the human body and footwear, questioning when vulnerability becomes self-awareness.

02 NESTING
Explores comfort and protection through cocoon-like forms inspired by nests, burrows, and the instinct to retreat inward. Layers of wool and sculpted surfaces wrap around the foot like a second skin, balancing softness with containment while reflecting on the desire for safety, warmth, and escape.

03 TAKING FLIGHT
Explores transformation and escape through layered feathered surfaces that obscure and extend the body. Corset-like lacing and elongated forms reference both restriction and flight, balancing delicacy with tension while questioning the line between adornment, protection, and performance

04 TIME LEFT NO INK
Explores collapse and reconstruction through folded leather forms that appear to loosen, shift, and fall away from the body. Loose wrapping and exposed structure reference the act of coming undone, balancing softness with instability while questioning how much a form can unravel before it loses its function

05 PLASTER LACEUPS
Explores attachment and dependency through bound lacing and softened structural forms. Thick woven ties pull the silhouette inward, creating tension between support and restriction while reflecting on the ways connection, memory, and intimacy can both hold something together and weigh it down.

06 HEELESS HOOFS
Explores instability and adaptation through a heelless silhouette inspired by the shape and tension of a hoof. Rounded forms and exaggerated balance points distort traditional ideas of movement and support, creating a body that feels suspended between softness and strain, human and animalistic
